Legal & Actor Data Policy
Selftape.ai is built for actors who want a private, practical way to rehearse, record, review, and learn from their own self-tape history. This page explains our actor-first position on self-tapes, audition materials, AI coaching, and Actor Brain.
Effective date: May 23, 2026
Plain-English promise
We help actors use their own work for themselves. We are not helping studios harvest actors.
Actor materials should be used to serve the actor who provided them — not to create an unauthorized public substitute for that actor.
Draft status
Business/legal copy draft. Final review by counsel recommended before launch.
Our core position
Your self-tapes are not studio training fuel. They are your work, your preparation, and your private performance history.
When you upload or record material in Selftape.ai, the purpose is to help you prepare better auditions, review your takes, and build a private Actor Brain that reflects your own acting patterns, strengths, and prep history.
Selftape.ai is not designed to sell, publish, or transfer your performance archive as a digital replica for third-party productions.
Actor Brain
Actor Brain is a private performance memory generated from self-tapes, notes, sides, role context, and related audition-prep materials that you choose to provide.
Actor Brain may help identify casting lanes, role fit, pacing, emotional clarity, delivery tendencies, recurring strengths, prep habits, technical self-tape patterns, and take-review insights.
Actor Brain is intended as a private coaching and preparation tool. It is not a guarantee of employment, booking, representation, casting approval, or audition outcome.
Your uploaded materials
You should only upload self-tapes, sides, scripts, images, audio, video, or other materials that you have the right to use for your own audition preparation, review, or private performance analysis.
You remain responsible for respecting any applicable confidentiality obligations, casting instructions, union rules, studio policies, NDAs, copyright restrictions, or other limits attached to audition materials.
In plain English: if audition sides are confidential, unreleased, watermarked, or restricted, treat them that way. Selftape.ai is for private prep — not for publishing or leaking protected material.
Audition sides and copyrighted scripts
Many audition sides, scripts, project descriptions, character names, and breakdowns are owned or controlled by studios, producers, writers, casting offices, or other rights holders.
Selftape.ai does not claim ownership of those third-party materials. If you upload sides or script text, you are using them so the product can help you rehearse, record, organize, or review your own audition work.
Selftape.ai should not be used to publicly reproduce, distribute, sell, or expose copyrighted or confidential audition materials without permission.
AI use and training
Selftape.ai may use AI systems to provide features such as teleprompter assistance, rehearsal support, take review, performance notes, transcript analysis, search, organization, and Actor Brain memory.
Our actor-first operating principle is: Actor materials should be used to serve the actor who provided them — not to create an unauthorized public substitute for that actor.
Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, Selftape.ai is not a license for studios, producers, or third parties to create, sell, or exploit a digital replica of you.
Privacy policy, CCPA/CPRA, and GDPR readiness
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we process it, the service providers we use, retention limits, deletion requests, and privacy-rights contacts.
Selftape.ai does not sell actor self-tapes, scripts, Actor Brain materials, voice, likeness, or performance archives. California privacy law defines sale and sharing broadly, so our public position is intentionally plain: we are not building a marketplace for actor data.
Users in jurisdictions with privacy rights, including California and the European Economic Area/United Kingdom, may request access, correction, deletion, export, restriction, or objection where applicable by contacting legal@selftape.ai.
Digital replicas, likeness, voice, and performance rights
Selftape.ai is a preparation and review platform. Uploading or recording material in Selftape.ai does not grant a studio, producer, casting office, or other third party the right to use your face, body, voice, likeness, or performance as a digital replica in a production.
If Selftape.ai ever offers separate digital-double, synthetic-performance, licensing, or third-party production features, those features should require separate, clear, written consent and separate terms.
SAG-AFTRA, union rules, and non-union users
Actors may be subject to different obligations depending on union membership, project type, jurisdiction, contract terms, and casting instructions.
Selftape.ai is not a union, talent agency, casting office, law firm, or legal advisor. Nothing on this page replaces SAG-AFTRA rules, other union rules, performer agreements, studio policies, or legal advice.
If you are a SAG-AFTRA member or working on a union-covered project, you should follow the rules and guidance that apply to that project and your membership status.
Private use vs. public use
Selftape.ai is designed around private audition preparation and actor-controlled review.
Do not use Selftape.ai to publicly post, distribute, or commercialize audition sides, confidential project information, private casting materials, or another person’s likeness, voice, or performance without the rights or permission to do so.
Readers, scene partners, and other people
Some self-tapes include readers, coaches, scene partners, studio staff, or other people. You are responsible for making sure you have any permissions needed to upload or analyze material that includes another person’s voice, face, likeness, or performance.
Where possible, keep uploads focused on your own performance and avoid unnecessary third-party personal information.
Deletion and control
Actor trust matters. Selftape.ai should provide reasonable tools for users to delete uploaded materials, manage their account, and control their private Actor Brain.
Deletion may be subject to reasonable limits such as backups, legal obligations, security logs, payment records, fraud prevention, or technical retention windows.
Third-party services
Selftape.ai may rely on third-party infrastructure or AI providers for hosting, storage, transcription, analysis, authentication, payments, or other product features.
Where third-party providers are used, Selftape.ai should choose vendors and settings that support privacy, security, and actor-first data handling. Vendor terms may apply to certain features.
Security, breach risk, and practical limits
Selftape.ai uses reasonable safeguards designed to protect actor materials, but no internet-connected service can promise perfect security, uninterrupted availability, or risk-free AI processing.
Users should avoid uploading unnecessary sensitive information and should treat confidential sides, unreleased scripts, private production details, and other restricted materials carefully.
If a security incident affects personal information, Selftape.ai will evaluate required notices under applicable law and take reasonable steps to contain and remediate the issue.
No legal, casting, or professional guarantee
Selftape.ai provides tools, automation, and AI-assisted feedback. It does not provide legal advice, talent representation, casting decisions, employment guarantees, or professional psychological advice.
AI feedback can be useful, but it can also be wrong, incomplete, or subjective. You should use your judgment, your coach, your reps, and the instructions from casting.
